Alberta Infrastructure Projects and Regulatory Approvals

REP & Alberta Infrastructure projects continue to run into challenges with their regulatory approvals. Canadian Solar’s Tilley project is fighting with the Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP), over environmental concerns to the wildlife and wildlife habitats. The AUC has environmental concerns with respect to Capstone’s Buffalo Atlee 1, 2, and 3  Wind Power Plants project – indicating that these projects pose an overall “high” residual risk for wildlife and wildlife habitat as well. Last week the AUC indicated that it had concerns that Potentia’s Jenner application included an environmental risk that was not adequately mitigated at this time, placing the application in abeyance in order to give the project an opportunity to explore ways to avoid/reduce potential and residual effects on wildlife and wildlife habitat.
